Release is a two-page printed object made with drypoint engraving techniques. This work explores the concept of the energy involved in expressing one’s ‘truth’ as compared to suppressing it, which could be thought of as a lie to oneself. On the left side of the print, the image created is of expressing truth. The chaotic energy of lines and texture emanates from the crisp, calm square. The blank square is symbolic of the mind which has expressed its truth to the external world, leaving it clear and at rest. On the right side of the print, a square of the same dimension sits in silence, compressing energy. This is symbolic of the potential for negative physical and mental manifestations to form within the body and mind when an individual does not express their opinions and needs. Neither are perfect solutions and in reality we must balance our expressions with intelligent consideration for those around us. The visual combination of both actions creates an the space for the viewer to naturally arrive at this conclusion, or not.
